Out-of-Band remote management technology allows system operators to manage and maintain devices even if that device’s hardware or software is not functioning properly. In the case of the InnoAgent, this is possible via an independent UART, RS232 or GPIO connection of the module to the system. Even if the device’s regular network connection becomes unavailable due to a system crash, the device remains available via InnoAgent’s separate communication channel. Without an Out-of-Band solution such as InnoAgent, the unit cannot be monitored remotely via the main unit’s LAN port or Wi-Fi connection in the event of connection failures, unit shutdowns and operating system crashes.
For devices with an InnoAgent module, monitoring applications such as Innodisk’s iCAP can still access the device’s information even in the event of major problems, whether hardware or software. In addition, remote commands can be sent to the unit via the module’s LAN port, such as resetting the power supply. This ability to reboot and send other useful commands to crashed equipment eliminates the need for technicians to be on site around the clock.
InnoAgent has two main use cases in the field: as a backup for In-Band management to increase availability, or as the only form of remote management to increase security. Both use cases are well served by InnoAgent’s extensive features and integration options, which include an API that enables easy merging with existing systems. In addition, InnoAgent supports an extended temperature range of -40° to +85°C and complies with the EN61000-4-2 (ESD) Air-15kV and Contact-8kV electrostatic protection specification.
