LAPP Expanding Logistics in Ludwigsburg

The largest single investment in the company’s history: LAPP Group is planning a comprehensive expansion and modernization of the logistics center in Ludwigsburg, near the A81 motorway. After completion of the construction work, the about 50-year-old logistics center in Stuttgart-Möhringen shall be completely transferred to Ludwigsburg. LAPP then expects to be able to offer all of the approximately 110 permanent employees a job in Ludwigsburg.

"Ludwigsburg will become the pivotal point of our logistics throughout Europe, the investment sum is in the high double-digit million range. A clear commitment to Germany and the Stuttgart region as a business location", says Matthias Lapp, CEO of LAPP Group. "Highly efficient, highly automated, sustainable and with maximum availability for our customers – that is our vision." With this, the Stuttgart-based global market leader for integrated solutions in the field of cable and connection technology aims to lay the logistics foundation for its growth strategy.

As part of the large-scale project, new halls will be built on the existing site, while the entire layout will be fundamentally optimized and the level of automation significantly increased. Construction work is scheduled for completion in 2026.

Integration of Logistics Center in Stuttgart-Möhringen Planned

The expansion in Ludwigsburg will have an impact on the LAPP Group’s oldest logistics center in Stuttgart-Möhringen, just under 30 kilometers away. This has already been in operation for 50 years, and the three-story building no longer meets the logistical challenges of today. Therefore, the Executive Board of LAPP Group has decided to start planning the integration into the Ludwigsburg operation. The move is to take place after the construction work there has been completed.

LAPP Fulfills its Social Responsibility

With the merger, LAPP is fulfilling its social responsibility as a family-owned company: According to current plans, all of the approximately 110 permanent employees who currently work in Stuttgart logistics will be offered a job in Ludwigsburg. "A modern and ergonomic working environment will await them there. Increased automation will eliminate many manual and physically demanding tasks, but thanks to our growth there will still be enough work", explains Matthias Lapp.

For employees who do not want to transfer to Ludwigsburg, there are to be alternatives, e. g. further qualification offers or the transfer to other LAPP companies. The details will be discussed in talks with the employee representatives of U.I. Lapp GmbH, to which both logistics centers belong.

A Plus in Efficiency and Sustainability

In addition to efficiency gains, the merger of the two logistics centers also promises a significant plus in sustainability, according to Matthias Lapp: "Fewer consolidation trips, fewer partial deliveries, shorter transport routes: the CO2 emissions of our logistics processes will be significantly reduced and the volume of traffic in the Stuttgart urban area will also decrease."
