Growing interest in uranium and uranium companies

Word should have gotten around by now that the uranium market and nuclear energy have come back to life.

The uranium sector will become increasingly important for the global economy, energy security and decarbonization goals in the coming decades. For many years, hardly anyone was interested in uranium, but today the tide has turned. When people think of electricity, they think of affordability, cleanliness and reliability. Nuclear energy is reliable, it runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without a break. Wind and solar energy can’t compete with that. Nuclear energy also scores highly in terms of its CO2 footprint and is clearly superior to fossil fuels. Energy security is essential for a functioning economy.

After decades of inactivity, the USA, for example, wants to expand its nuclear power capacities. A turnaround has taken place, benefiting the uranium market and with it the uranium companies that can supply the sought-after raw material. And with a few exceptions, this turnaround is a global phenomenon. China is particularly eager to build new nuclear power plants, between five and ten every year. It is estimated that by 2030, China will overtake the USA with the largest nuclear reactor fleet in the world. Reliable electricity is also needed for artificial intelligence and all the technologies that require computing power. And this is an industry in which the demand for electricity is increasing.

Since the tsunami in Japan, stocks have been reduced and the price of uranium has fallen. Since 2022, however, utilities have been buying more uranium as they want to secure long-term supplies. In 2023, 160 million pounds of uranium were purchased under long-term contracts. This was the highest figure since 2012, so it’s time to familiarize yourself with uranium companies.
