Safety at trans-o-flex ThermoMed Austria: all sites now TAPA-certified

trans-o-flex ThermoMed Austria (TMA), which specialises in active temperature-controlled shipments for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, has now received TAPA certification in accordance with the FSR-C 2023 standard for its fourth logistics centre—the recently opened branch in Lebring, which commenced its operations in March. ‘This means that our entire network in Austria is now certified in accordance with this exacting safety standard,’ stated Eugen Günther, spokesman for the TMA Management Board, upon receiving the certificate.

The Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) is an independent organisation supported by shippers, which has established the highest security standards in the field of transport worldwide. In the opinion of many trans-o-flex customers, the TAPA FSR-C 2023 standard should be rated much more highly than the safety requirements in ISO quality management. Günter continued: "That’s why trans-o-flex is building on this foundation both in Austria and in our German networks in order to to further develop our safety processes and technology." His reasoning: "Maintaining the highest safety standards is vital for a company specialising in the transport of sensitive goods. And it is also nearly as important to effectively document and demonstrate the achieved security level to the outside world.”

All safety-relevant processes must be described for the certification. Strictly defined technical safety devices are required. Both undergo annual audits. Ultimately, all personnel involved in transport and handling processes must participate in regular safety training courses. TAPA also has very specific structural requirements, for instance in relation to fences, access regulations and video controls. For instance, all certified locations were equipped with a video management system that facilitates targeted and rapid searches for individual parcels.

TMA specialises in transporting medicines within temperature ranges of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius and 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, ensuring the quality of the medicines through active temperature control. In addition to Lebring (Styria), TMA operates logistics and transshipment centres in Großebersdorf (Lower Austria), Regau (Upper Austria) and Fritzens (Tyrol). The sites are connected to the German ThermoMed network as well as to the partner networks in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
