Compact, Flexible & Powerful: Hub Gears from Framo Morat

Hall 8 – Booth C01

Just in time for LogiMAT 2025, Framo Morat’s hub gear platform is getting a powerful upgrade. The NG750 joins the well-established NG250 and NG500 models, offering an increased radial load capacity of up to 750 kg per wheel. Staying true to its original design engineered for AGVs and AMRs, the platform excels across all sizes with its compact design, versatile gear ratios, and easy wheel replacement. Moreover, the systems boast a long service life of up to 30,000 hours.

To ensure rapid availability, all hub gears are offered in single- and two-stage versions, equipped with PUR wheels. Standardized flanges allow for direct integration with common motors, enabling high flexibility and quick deployment. Custom adaptations, such as brush seals for outdoor applications or belt drives for high-bay warehouses, are also available.

High-Performance Drive Technology for Efficient Material Handling

Framo Morat has maximized power density in the design of its hub gears. With their advantageous arrangement of separate wheel bearings and the integration of planetary gears into the wheel, they are particularly effective in wheel drives for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) in intralogistics. A prime example, developed in collaboration with Dunkermotoren, is the iw.hub by idealworks. This autonomous under-ride AMR is specifically designed for internal transport of pallets and wire mesh containers, offering a payload capacity of up to 1,000 kg and a speed of up to 2.2 m/s, ensuring efficient and precise material transport in warehouse and production environments.

At the heart of the iw.hub is the drive unit, which combines a customized NG500 hub gear from Framo Morat with the BG 95 BLDC motor from Dunkermotoren. The NG500’s 16:1 gear ratio was specifically designed for high torque and efficient power transmission. With a radial load capacity of approximately 500 kg per wheel, compact design, and high power density, the NG500 meets the demanding requirements of mobile robotics solutions with limited installation space and high load capacity. The BG 95 motor complements the NG500 hub gear, creating a powerful and integrated drive system. Equipped with an integrated brake and dual encoder systems, it ensures precise control and optimal maneuverability. The robust construction and seamless integration of motor and gear provide a durable and reliable drive solution for the iw.hub by idealworks.

Customized Drive Solutions for Maximum Flexibility

In addition to system solutions, customized drive solutions for AGVs and AMRs continue to be in high demand. Framo Morat benefits from its expertise in hub gears and wheel hub drives, along with decades of experience in developing and manufacturing tailored drive systems for a wide range of customers and industries. A recent example is a highly integrated custom drive system used in the innovative double skid system by Filics.

The double skid system was designed for highly compact and efficient in-house transport of Euro pallets, offering maximum flexibility in the smallest possible space. Filics aims to enable fully autonomous loading and unloading of trucks with this system in the future. The Filics Unit almost completely disappears beneath a Euro pallet or similarly sized load carriers. Thanks to its omnidirectional drive and zero-degree turning radius, the system requires only the space occupied by the pallet itself for movement. Furthermore, the Filics system features the unique ability to drive through load carriers, allowing it to enter and exit pallets from any direction. This eliminates the need for maneuvering and turning, significantly improving process efficiency. By enabling the automation of ground-level block storage and FIFO buffers while increasing storage capacity, this capability sets new benchmarks in intralogistics. The ultra-compact and high-performance drives developed by Framo Morat for this application can support a total lift weight of 800 kg and reach driving speeds of up to 1.2 m/s in their first-generation models.

Fully Automated Cleaning – Powered by Framo Morat

Framo Morat’s drive systems are not limited to intralogistics. The highly integrated wheel hub drives of the RNA series, which combine all functional components such as the wheel, a high-precision planetary gear, a powerful electric motor, brakes, and electronics in an all-in-one solution, are modular and scalable systems. They stand out with their high performance in the tightest spaces, making them ideal for sustainable automation in other applications.

Wheel hub drives like the RNA250 are used, for example, in the fully autonomous cleaning robot CR700 by Adlatus. The CR700 is robustly built and designed for continuous operation. The RNA250 is particularly suited for smaller and lower-profile vehicles, as its most popular version features a two-stage gearbox with a total system length of less than 235 mm and a standard wheel size of 125 mm. It supports a load capacity of up to 250 kg per wheel. Similarly compact, the RNA500 boasts a system length of under 200 mm and a standard wheel size of 160 mm. It can handle radial loads of up to 500 kg, making it ideal for larger vehicles.

Framo Morat at LogiMAT 2025: Hall 8 – Booth C01

At LogiMAT, March 11–13, 2025, in Stuttgart, Framo Morat will showcase its full range of drive components and systems for intralogistics at Booth C01 in Hall 8. Highlights include rotor shafts for electric motors in industrial trucks, Compacta-series geared motors for gate drives in automated highbay warehouses, planetary gears for drum motors, screw jack systems for cranes and lift vehicles, and custom drive systems for electric stackers based on the proprietary speeroX gearing.

A key exhibit is the iw.hub by idealworks, equipped with the NG500, which will also be on display at Dunkermotoren’s Booth F09 in Hall 8. The Filics Unit will also feature at Filics’ Booth A26 in Hall 8, while the CR700 cleaning robot equipped with the RNA250 can be viewed at Adlatus’ Booth C58 in Hall 10.
