The shortage of both skilled and unskilled labor is one of the key obstacles to businesses across all sectors seeking to remain competitive. The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) reports that 43% of companies are currently having trouble filling vacancies. A study by Bitkom, the Berlin-based industry association for the digital economy, found a shortfall of some 149,000 experts in the tech sector alone. “We are currently experiencing a profound transformation of the labor market that is far from over,” says Daniela Komolafe, Talent Acquisition, Recruiting, and Engagement Manager at equipment manufacturer Konecranes. “This development presents companies with ever greater challenges. It’s becoming increasingly important to find creative solutions for attracting and retaining skilled workers.” Most companies have responded by expanding their recruiting well beyond published job listings. Miebach Consulting, for example, attends recruiting events, lectures, and workshops at universities. They turn to external recruiters where necessary. They posts jobs on Google, Indeed, and LinkedIn. They use various social media to actively source skilled workers. And finally, they offer attractive packages to seal the deal with the qualified candidates they find. The “Trend Study 2025” published by the Augsburg Institute for Generation Research at the beginning of 2025 found that young applicants in particular expect flexible worktime models and the option to work from home, but they also expect a respectful workplace culture with an emphasis on leadership skills and employee health. Employers like Miebach rise to these expectations by offering a dynamic corporate culture, flat hierarchies, small teams, and exciting projects with prestigious international enterprises. Job seekers are also offered attractive compensation packages and career paths, accident insurance and company-sponsored retirement plans, training programs, and flexible working hours. “Thanks to a sophisticated recruiting strategy and the right tools and methods, we once again succeeded in quickly finding the right people for our open positions this year,” relates Ute Hittinger, Senior Recruiter and Process Owner at the Viastore Group. But this now requires a much greater investment of time and resources.”
Setting the tone for the entire accompanying program
All this led LogiMAT organizer EUROEXPO Messe- und Kongress-GmbH to launch LogiMAT Campus as a career and networking event. LogiMAT Campus returns to LogiMAT for the second year running on Thursday, March 13, from 9 AM to 5 PM at a new location in the ICS Foyer of the Messe Stuttgart convention center. “LogiMAT Campus was launched last year to expand the range of recruiting tools available to exhibitors and to open the door to a career in logistics for skilled job candidates,” explains LogiMAT Exhibition Director Michael Ruchty. “The matching service was still in its infancy but already well received by both sides. Many exhibitors will return again this year. We’ve also used the past twelve months to further refine the concept. I feel confident that LogiMAT Campus 2025 will succeed in setting the tone for the entire accompanying program at LogiMAT.”
LogiMAT Campus offers all aspiring entry-level professionals, trade school and university students, and professionals from other sectors interested in a career in logistics a platform for making initial contacts and learning more about logistics-related companies. Participants include prestigious systems integrators, equipment makers, software companies, industrial truck manufacturers, logistics consultants, and service providers such as the Beumer Group, Konecranes, Miebach Consulting, and the Viastore Group. Info booths at LogiMAT Campus offer job seekers an opportunity for direct contact with logistics specialists and HR reps from these industry players. The focus is on the profiles and requirements of the current job openings and on the career and professional development opportunities that the companies offer their employees. In addition, LogiMAT Campus also offers an educational program for those exploring a career in logistics, with industry insiders sharing helpful tips and talking about their own career experience and how they got started in the field. “We see a tremendous potential for added value in this program,” assures Viastore recruiter Ute Hittinger. “We’re coming to LogiMAT Campus 2025 with the specific aim of filling positions in sales, project management, and PLC/mechatronics. Our target audience is recent graduates and young intralogistics professionals working in systems and software. But last year we also had experienced industry professionals stop by the Campus.”
After an initial contact at LogiMAT Campus, candidates can get more information and learn more about industry and career opportunities by visiting a company’s exhibit hall booth. Event partners helping to support LogiMAT Campus include the University of Stuttgart, WGTL, the Association of German Engineers (VDI), and fashion giant HUGO BOSS.
Applications during and after the event
The fact that even experienced industry specialists come to LogiMAT Campus in search of information aligns perfectly with what Miebach’s management consultants are looking for. “The people who stopped by in 2024 fit the bill perfectly, including a few experienced candidates, and had a clear interest,” recalls Sarah O’Brien, Human Resources Manager at Miebach Consulting. “We received applications right there at LogiMAT and in the follow-up period.” This year, Miebach’s consultants are looking for experienced engineers with a degree in engineering and professional experience in the planning and implementation of logistics systems.
Konecranes is coming to LogiMAT Campus primarily to recruit electricians and mechatronics engineers “who can work for us as service technicians throughout Germany,” explains Konecranes manager Daniela Komolafe. The unionized equipment manufacturer offers benefits that include a competitive salary with bonuses, a positive workplace environment, a corporate culture that promotes a healthy work-life balance, good development opportunities within the company, and 30 days of paid vacation.
“The wide range of candidates and job profiles offered by the exhibitors at LogiMAT Campus – from electricians and mechatronics specialists to experienced engineers – reflects the diversity of career paths and specializations in intralogistics that are often unknown to the public and potential job candidates,” concludes Exhibition Director Ruchty. “By integrating LogiMAT Campus within LogiMAT, we have succeeded in building an educational framework that helps companies recruit qualified personnel while giving both entry-level and experienced industry professionals among the 68,000 LogiMAT attendees the information and opportunities they need to discover new perspectives in intralogistics.”
