Well thought-out and more targeted temperature control can also optimize the cycle time and thus increase productivity. At the same time, the right equipment and know-how can improve energy efficiency and optimize material usage by reducing waste.
Expertise and skilled workers are the key to success
The potential of sensible mold temperature control is therefore great, but the appropriate expertise in the injection molding process, mold and temperature control technology is still required to control the process accordingly. Equipment and systems are often purchased without involving the staff in good time and without explaining to them the advantages of this equipment. As a result, there is often a lack of knowledge about what needs to be urgently observed in temperature control technology in order to ensure consistent quality of the injection molded parts. The SKZ Plastics Center wants to counteract this and is offering a comprehensive course on the subject of “Efficient temperature control of injection molds”. The Würzburg-based institute is focusing on a high practical component, in which the participants have to lend a hand themselves and can then transfer practical knowledge directly into their own production processes. The SKZ TDI, a method for inline thermography, is also used here to monitor the processes and visualize the temperature distribution of the components resulting from the settings. For example, the influences of serial or parallel tubing and the throttling of flow rates in individual circuits are investigated in combination with frequency-controlled temperature control units. This is always done in consideration of the energy consumption required by the system.
"It is very important to us not only to train the theory. This is part of it, but in an industrial environment, practical application must have the highest priority. That’s why we are very pleased that we have received additional support from Mr. Dornbusch from Stäubli for this course in particular, allowing us to train the participants as closely as possible to the real industrial conditions," explains Christoph Mussauer, Group Manager of the Injection Moulding Technology Centre at SKZ.
"For us, it is always a great enrichment not only to impart knowledge, but also to be confronted with the requirements of the course participants and to directly derive solution strategies. I am proud to have been working effectively with the SKZ for so long and that we have been able to help so many course participants," says Frank Dornbusch, Process Engineer at Stäubli.
The SKZ offers the course twice a year in the institute’s own technical center.
